Arriving by car

Barcelona is well connected and has a large amount of car parks. The motorway and road network will take you anywhere in the city by car although it's worth bearing in mind that traffic can be heavy at the main entry points of Barcelona during rush hour.

Barcelona has a large number of car parks for cars, many of them located in the city centre. Parking rates range from 3 and 4€ per hour and from 25€ and 50€ for a whole day.

There are also paid parking areas in the street (blue zones + green area) and charges vary according to the zone of Barcelona. Permitted parking times also vary from 1 to 4 hours.

Motor impairment
Cars parked in disabled spaces must display the disabled sticker or blue badge in the window. A Spanish resident may request a disabled sticker and information on applying for a blue badge from their local Town Hall.

The blue badge is a standardised European Community disabled person's parking permit which provides parking entitlements to badge holders in all complying European countries - a blue badge from one country is valid in another. A person coming to Spain from another EU country, can apply in their home country for this universal badge which allows the use of reserved parking.

Disabled spaces in car parks reserved for disabled people are marked with a wheelchair symbol Do not park if the space is marked with a vehicle registration number Some car parks allow vehicles displaying a disabled parking sign to park free of charge There are no concessions for disabled drivers on roadside parking Driver's with a blue badge from another European country may display this Spanish translation beside a badge written in another language (text from the UK Automobile Association):

"Tarjeta de aparcamiento para minusválidos. La persona que muestra esta tarjeta de aparcamiento es un visitante minusválido procedente de otro pais europeo, y tiene derecho a los mismos privilegios de aparcamiento que un minusválido residente en su pais. Modelo de la Comunidad Europea"

Public car parks have parking places reserved for disabled persons, and some of them, with several storeys, have a lift that connects with the street. In the centre of Barcelona there are no free parking spaces on the public way. In what are called “green zones”, only residents of the area are allowed to park their cars there, whereas the “blue zones” are for paid parking which is based on time parked. Holders of the official European Community disabled person parking card can park their cars free of charge for the length of time they require to undertake their activities, but must always leave the card visible. They may also park in loading and unloading areas under the same conditions.

Barcelona is located 150 km from La Jonquera, the French border. The French motorway network connects to the AP-7, N-II and C-32 Barcelona motorway. You can enter the city via the ring roads or the Avinguda Meridiana which leads to the centre.

From the south, if you're entering from the rest of Spain join the AP-7 or C-32 and enter the city via the Avinguda Diagonal.
